Applied AI Engineer
Job Description
Applied AI Engineer for a leading fintech company’s AI Team in the United States, acting as the team’s technical anchor.
Responsibilities
- Bring engineering depth from AI coding tools into ByLabs, translating best practices from Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, Replit Agent, and similar platforms (including Skills, hooks, subagents, long-context engineering, and MCP integration).
- Create engineer onboarding playbooks and define advanced-usage standards for AI coding tooling.
- Raise the bar for the Skill Marketplace by defining Skill design conventions.
- Deliver 5–10 reference-quality Skills as exemplars.
- Improve Skill engineering quality through PR review and standards-based feedback.
- Prototype an AI-native engineering workflow, reworking the spec-design, implementation review, testing, and release-operations lifecycle around AI tooling.
- Produce a reference workflow that APAC teams can adopt.
- Build internal AI application prototypes for employee-facing scenarios (example contexts include OpenClaw, A2UI, and role-bound AI assistants).
- Validate emerging patterns via small frontier prototypes, including streaming UX, transparent agent steps, long-context memory, and multi-agent collaboration.
- Provide runnable reference architecture code as working implementations (not documentation-only artifacts).
- Support craft propagation with durable assets: 1 internal tech talk/month, 1 in-depth blog/quarter, and 1 onsite workshop in APAC/half year.
- Participate in ByLab’s AI architecture review process as the U.S. AI Team anchor, offering frontier perspective and application-layer feedback.
Requirements
- Education: top-tier CS/EE BS or above; MS preferred.
- Experience: 6+ years of software engineering, including at least 2 years focused on LLM applications.
- AI application engineering depth: shipped AI applications from 0 → 1 in production (not demos).
- Team pedigree: at least one tour of duty as a core engineer at a top-tier Silicon Valley AI company or leading AI product team (examples: Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, or similar).
- AI coding tooling fluency: daily-driver usage of at least one of Claude Code, Cursor, Devin, or Replit Agent, with ability to articulate implementation and engineering tradeoffs.
- Strong understanding of engineering tradeoffs in Skills, hooks, subagents, MCP, and long-context engineering.
- Agent application depth: familiarity with ReAct, Plan-Execute, Reflection, Multi-Agent, and Orchestrator-Worker tradeoffs.
- Hands-on experience with LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, OpenAI Swarm, or in-house frameworks.
- Full-stack engineering: strong backend in Go, Python, or TypeScript; mid-level or above frontend in React / Next.js; comfortable with end-to-end streaming rendering and interaction.
- Product sense and craft: collaborates with PMs and designers; evaluates AI application UX patterns (streaming, undo, context surfacing, agent-step progress, etc.).
- Public technical influence: track record of public output (blog, talks, OSS) sufficient to represent the team externally.
- Self-direction and async collaboration: independently identifies value priorities and drives prototype-to-dogfooding loops; collaborates with APAC counterparts via documents, PRs, and async communication.
