Job Description

The Mechanical Field Engineer provides hands-on project field engineering leadership across planning, materials management, safety, quality control, technical inspection, and subcontract coordination for mechanical equipment and systems. This is a project site assignment in the Midwest, and relocation to the site is required if selected.

Role Overview

This position focuses on field execution for mechanical installation and fabrication, including rotating and centerline-related equipment support. The role also includes managing field material quantities, verifying materials against technical requirements, coordinating with OEMs and subcontractors, and partnering with engineering on maintenance planning, construction sequencing, and equipment setting activities. In addition, the position supports modularization efforts and project timeline sequencing.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret mechanical design drawings and specifications; oversee mechanical installation and fabrication, including rotating equipment and centerline equipment.
  • Perform and track quantity takeoffs for field-purchased materials and equipment; forecast material needs and report progress.
  • Conduct field verification of materials to ensure compliance with technical inspection and testing requirements.
  • Enforce safety policies and quality standards; ensure field work is completed safely and meets project requirements, including compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and subcontractors to align engineering and installation plans with execution schedules.
  • Partner with engineering on maintenance plans, construction sequences, and equipment setting plans.
  • Support phase release of mechanical equipment to civils for grouting and piping, ensuring stress-free hook-up connections and nozzle loading prior to final alignment.
  • Work with engineering and procurement on modularization and sequencing to support project timelines.

Requirements

  • 7 to 10 years of field-based mechanical engineer role and technical field experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant project execution experience.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills.
  • Strong time management skills with demonstrated organizational efficiency.
  • Track record of achievement and career progression.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Project, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to walk over rough or uneven terrain typical of renewable energy construction sites.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions across North America.
  • Ability to enter confined or enclosed spaces.

Work Location and Assignment

Onsite assignment based at a project site in the Midwest United States. Vista Energy L.P. is proactively seeking candidates for work in the United States at the Midwest project location. If selected, relocation to the project site is required.

Duration and Working Conditions

Project duration is six (6) to twelve (12) months. The role is project site based.

Work Schedule

Work hours are based on a minimum of fifty-eight (58) hours per week and may change based on project requirements.

Compensation and Pay

Compensation is based on education, experience, and relevant successful work history in engineering, construction, or similar fields. Pay rate: $70.00 to $75.00 per hour.
