Job Description
The University of South Carolina relies on dependable data infrastructure to support institutional analytics, reporting, and decision-making. As an Institutional Data Engineer with the State of South Carolina in Richland County, you will design, develop, maintain, and optimize the enterprise data platform and integration processes that keep institutional data usable and trustworthy.
This onsite role focuses on building data pipelines that connect multiple enterprise systems, strengthening data quality and governance efforts, and modernizing analytics capabilities so stakeholders can access reliable information across the institution.
What you will do
- Provide scalable and reliable access to institutional data for enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency through integration and quality-focused practices.
- Modernize the institution’s analytics capabilities by enhancing analytical data environments and related integration workflows.
- Integrate data from multiple enterprise systems and build data pipelines to support institutional analytics and reporting.
- Support data quality and governance initiatives as part of the enterprise data environment.
Required qualifications
- Knowledge of higher education data structures, business processes, and institutional research methodologies.
- Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
- Ability to collaborate across distributed, cross-functional teams.
Preferred qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in ETL tools (including IBM DataStorage, Informatica, and SSIS) and BI tools (including Cognos, Tableau, and PowerBI), including recommended configuration and security practices for hardware and cloud-based server environments.
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data querying, transformation, and optimization.
- Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and dimensional modeling.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience working in higher education or public sector environments.
- Experience working with enterprise data systems (including HR, Finance, Student Information, and Learning Management) and large-scale institutional datasets.
