This onsite role in Richland County, SC supports enterprise data work for the University of South Carolina’s institutional analytics and reporting.

What You’ll Do

The Institutional Data Engineer designs, develops, maintains, and optimizes the University of South Carolina’s enterprise data infrastructure, including integrations and analytical data environments.

  • Provide scalable and reliable access to institutional data.
  • Improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Modernize the institution’s analytics capabilities.

What You Bring

  • Knowledge of higher education data structures, business processes, and institutional research methodologies.
  • Ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Ability to collaborate across distributed, cross-functional teams.

Tools and Technical Skills

  • SQL and relational database technologies
  • ETL/ELT technologies, data warehousing, and dimensional modeling concepts
  • IBM DataStorage, Informatica, SSIS
  • BI tools including Cognos, Tableau, and PowerBI
  • Relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in ETL tools (IBM DataStorage, Informatica, SSIS), including recommended configuration and security practices in hardware and cloud-based server environments.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and optimization.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts and dimensional modeling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience working in higher education or public sector environments.
  • Experience with enterprise data systems (HR, Finance, Student Information, Learning Management) and large-scale institutional datasets.
