Job Description

Machine Learning Engineer on Whatnot's Buyer Growth team, building and owning ML models for onboarding and user targeting to accelerate buyer growth and improve first-time conversions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and productionization of ML models that power user acquisition, activation, and retention, including ranking models, targeting systems, and uplift modeling.
  • Own the full ML lifecycle: build data pipelines, feature engineering, model training, deployment, and online experimentation; establish feedback loops from postbacks, conversions, and downstream revenue signals.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities to unlock growth with ML, collaborating with product, engineering, data, and marketing stakeholders.
  • Drive technical excellence and establish ML best practices across the Buyer Growth team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience building and deploying ML systems at scale.
  • Proven success leading end-to-end ML projects that delivered measurable business outcomes.
  • Deep expertise in personalization, ranking, or user modeling; strong intuition about consumer behavior in apps.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, and common ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, XGBoost).
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence roadmap and align cross-functional teams.

  • Salary: USD 190,000 - 280,000 per year
