Machine Learning Engineer - Multimodal

Hadrian Automation is building an AI-powered manufacturing data intelligence layer, and they are hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the ML lifecycle for vision-language models. This role focuses on unifying perception and reasoning to help systems understand manufacturing drawings and design intent from end-to-end documentation.

Working onsite in Torrance, CA, you will design, deploy, and evaluate multimodal models, moving beyond traditional OCR-to-NLP pipelines toward unified architectures that connect visual content with text understanding. Salary range is USD 160,000 - 250,000 per year, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

What you will do

• Research, develop, and deploy multimodal models that interpret manufacturing documentation from end-to-end, replacing conventional OCR-to-NLP cascades with unified architectures.
• Partner with the core engineering team to build and maintain annotation tooling, implement active learning loops, and design synthetic data augmentation strategies.
• Create evaluation frameworks that measure system behavior and quantify user impact beyond standard benchmark metrics.
• Collaborate with the machine learning team to define technical and product roadmaps for the AI platform.
• Drive improvements across difficult performance areas, with the understanding that each accuracy gain translates into man-years of time savings at Hadrian’s scale.

What you bring

• 5-8 years of professional deep learning experience, including at least 2 years working on multimodal models that use both image and text modalities.
• Strong Python and PyTorch skills, including experience building custom training loops, loss functions, and data loaders when needed.
• Proven production deployment ownership, including shipping models to production and responsibility for endpoint and model health.
• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent industry experience is valued the same.
