City of Torrance is seeking an Associate Engineer in the Engineering Division of the Community Development Department to manage non-capital improvement private development projects and to guide a team of professional and technical staff. This onsite role requires coordination across multiple city departments and the preparation of reports and agenda items for the City Council and commissions, while administering engineering contracts and fostering collaboration with planning, building, and public works teams.
Location and Compensation
Location: Torrance, CA (onsite). Compensation: USD 52 - 64 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Manages non-capital improvement private development engineering projects.
- Prepares and presents reports and agenda items for the City Council and City commissions.
- Prepares and administers professional engineering and professional service contracts.
- Plans and directs the work of lower-level professional and technical engineering staff.
- Collaborates with different City departments including Public Works, Transit, and Community Services; as well as the Current Development, Planning, and Building divisions of Community Development.
- Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Three years professional engineering field and office experience.
- Valid California driver's license.

Education and Experience
A typical path to the required knowledge and skills includes earning a Bachelor's degree in engineering and gaining three years of professional engineering field and office experience. Any combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Experience or training in engineering computer applications is desirable.
