Machine Learning Engineer, Search Recommendation

Join a team building search recommendations for TikTok’s rapidly expanding global e-commerce experience. You will help improve search traffic and user search understanding for TikTok and TikTok Mall by advancing recommendation algorithms, from recall to ranking. The Search Growth team uses cutting-edge machine learning, advanced NLP, CV, recommendation, and multi-modal technology to shape an industry-leading e-commerce search engine used by over 1 billion active TikTok users worldwide.

What you’ll do

• Enhance search recommendation services and models for TikTok, supporting increased search traffic on TikTok and TikTok Mall while improving how users understand and find what they are searching for.
• Optimize recommender systems using hyperscale machine learning models across an end-to-end workflow, including recall/first-stage ranking through final-stage ranking.
• Investigate the upper limits of short text recommendation and broader recommendation technology, with emphasis on the interaction between recommendation and NLP.

What you bring

• 3+ years of work experience in machine learning.
• Good product sense, with a focus on user experience.
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science or a related technical discipline.
• Excellent coding skills and solid knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Strong analysis, modeling, and problem-solving, with the ability to identify the core of problems from complex data.

Compensation and pay transparency

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $122574 - $316800 annually. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on factors including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives and restricted stock units.
