Mechanical Engineer - Electrical Packaging

Onsite collaboration in Wilton, CT with flexibility for remote work up to two days a week. What you will do

As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in electrical packaging, you will specify, design, develop, realize, integrate, and test electrical infrastructure modules and tooling in cross-functional teams. You will own technically complex solutions spanning design, integration, validation, and test execution.

• Identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability, coordinating verification criteria to confirm deliverables meet intent.
• Conduct research and feasibility studies, document results, and translate findings into recommendations, tradeoffs, and decision inputs.
• Develop engineering concepts and solutions, make technical choices, and resolve issues to meet functionality, performance, cost, and compliance needs.
• Define and communicate specifications and high-level designs, align interfaces, and support reviews and approvals to enable quality execution.
• Support system or product integration by coordinating dependencies, applying configuration management, and enabling smooth project execution.
• Define and execute validation and test approaches, improve methods and procedures, and ensure qualification evidence supports release of readiness.
• Estimate effort, plan and track work, manage risks and dependencies, and deliver assigned work packages or projects to agreed quality and timelines.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, share knowledge through coaching and mentoring as applicable, and follow EHS policies while identifying and mitigating safety risks.

Electrical infrastructure and tooling focus

• Design and document electrical infrastructure including AC, DC, and main power distribution (panel boards, boxes, and cabinets).
• Work on interconnect systems including cables, bundles, and connectors (harnessing), plus electronic racks, cabinets, and control consoles.
• Support interfacing with printed circuit board designs and model flex and rigid PWB volumes and critical part locations.
• Design electronic enclosure assemblies and contribute to sheet metal design.
• Apply DFM practices and develop assembly work instructions for low to medium volume products.
• Use 3D solid modeling for conceptualization and realization (NX preferred), including design fit check support during integration and testing at module, sub-system, and system levels.
• Use industry codes and standards (examples include NEC 70, NFPA 79, and Machine Tool Standards).
• Develop product-specific test tooling and perform V&V for product requirements.
• Plan and execute component level testing, sub-module integration, module level integration, and system level integration, with technical writing for test procedures and test reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• MS or PhD preferred.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to design and document electrical infrastructure and supporting documentation, including working knowledge of wiring diagrams and schematic diagrams and design drafting best practices (including geometric dimensioning).
• Ability to perform dimensional and tolerance analysis as needed.
• Technical writing experience to define and document specifications, design decisions, test procedures, and test reports.
• Requirements, interfaces, and technical specification management skills: identify, analyze, document, translate into clear specifications, and align interfaces so deliverables meet intent.
• Engineering solution development (Mechanical): develop concepts, make technical tradeoffs, resolve issues, and realize designs that meet functionality, performance, cost, compliance, and schedule constraints.
• Technologies: NX, Teamcenter, SAP (listed as technologies for the role).

• Position is onsite in Wilton, CT.
• Onsite presence is required to attend in-person work-related events, trainings, and meetings, and to support teamwork, collaboration, and innovation.
• Flexible workplace arrangement is available for remote work up to two days a week.
• Routine physical requirements include sitting, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands to keyboard and handle objects, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, reaching, and stretching.
• Occasionally required to move around the campus and lift or move up to 20 pounds.
• May require travel (domestic and/or international) depending on business needs.
• Additional responsibilities include potential exposure to strong magnetic fields and high voltage and currents.
