Job Description

Lead engineering and automation for firewall and secure perimeter activities across on-prem and cloud environments on Freddie Mac’s Security Perimeter team.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders and respond to frequent daily customer requests in a timely manner
  • Improve audit evidence gathering and streamline evidence capture workflows
  • Manage and advance a queue of business requests from start to completion
  • Advise on current perimeter configurations and upcoming perimeter changes
  • Execute assigned tasks end to end and drive them to completion
  • Participate in a monthly on-call rotation
  • Assist with troubleshooting firewall tickets
  • Provide clear, documented status updates to management and team members

Requirements

  • Typically 8 to 10 years of related professional IT experience
  • Extensive hands-on expertise implementing and administering firewalls, especially Palo Alto Networks firewalls and other secure perimeter applications
  • Deep understanding of Palo Alto firewall configurations, policies, and best practices
  • Proficiency with scripting and programming languages, including Python, Perl, YAML, and PowerShell
  • Extensive experience with AWS security and CloudFormation Templates (CFT)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure automation platforms Ansible and Terraform (plus)
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (advantageous)
  • Strong Linux skills
  • Proven networking and troubleshooting experience with a focus on Palo Alto Networks products
  • Expertise supporting encryption and/or security appliance devices
  • Ability to prioritize tasks independently without direct management oversight
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with effectiveness under tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; equivalent professional experience accepted (advanced studies/degree preferred)
