Operations SCADA UI/UX Engineer

EthosEnergy Group supports remote Operations SCADA/HMI engineering work that keeps ROC (Remote Operations Center) teams aligned with accurate real-time visibility. You will contribute to SCADA application development and operator graphics standardization using AVEVA System Platform, while partnering with ROC Operators and Controls Engineers to improve monitoring effectiveness across customer sites.

What you’ll do

• Develop, configure, and maintain SCADA applications using AVEVA System Platform and related technologies.
• Create and maintain reusable building blocks including object templates, symbols, graphic libraries, dashboards, and application components.
• Configure alarms, trends, equipment status indicators, KPIs, and operational display content.
• Develop industrial operator graphics and displays for ROC real-time monitoring and operational support, including recreating customer site operating displays in the ROC environment.
• Ensure visuals accurately represent process conditions, equipment status, alarms, and other critical operating information, and keep graphics updated as customer systems and site configurations change.
• Configure and maintain tag mappings between customer systems and ROC applications.
• Integrate operational data from PI System, OPC DA/UA, historians, DCS platforms, PLCs, and other industrial systems.
• Validate data quality, scaling, equipment status, alarm conditions, and overall operational functionality.
• Troubleshoot data communication and integration challenges, including support for commissioning and testing of new site integrations.
• Support ongoing improvement efforts for ROC SCADA applications and monitoring tools, including platform upgrades, migrations, and system enhancements.
• Develop fleet-wide SCADA visualization standards for the EthosEnergy ROC, including reusable graphic templates, symbols, navigation frameworks, and object libraries for faster deployment across multiple sites.
• Establish and apply standards for alarm presentation, color usage, equipment status indication, trends and historical data displays, screen layouts, navigation structures, and operator workflow consistency.
• Standardize visual representation for common equipment such as gas turbines, HRSGs, steam turbines, auxiliaries, renewable assets, and battery energy storage systems.
• Collaborate with ROC Operators and Controls Engineers, and with Controls Engineers, OT personnel, and customer SMEs, to improve operator effectiveness and ensure accurate process representation.
• Maintain governance and quality control processes for ROC graphics and visualization deployments, including support for onboarding new generation, renewable, and battery storage assets.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in SCADA, HMI, DCS, or industrial automation systems.
• Experience developing industrial operator displays and SCADA graphics.
• Experience with AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware or similar industrial SCADA platforms.
• SCADA object development experience, including template creation and symbol libraries.
• Experience mapping and troubleshooting industrial data points and integrating data from OPC, PI System, historians, PLCs, or DCS systems.
• Knowledge of industrial SCADA architecture, industrial networking fundamentals, and industrial HMI development.
• Experience with alarm management concepts and trend configuration and data visualization.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.
• Detail-oriented approach, strong organization and documentation skills, and ability to manage multiple integration and development projects at once.
• Commitment to operational excellence, safety, and reliability.
• Relevant technology experience: AVEVA System Platform / Wonderware, AVEVA OMI, AVEVA Historian, PI System, and OPC DA/OPC UA communications.

Work setup and location

• Remote location with Houston, TX, USA as the base; hybrid includes office-based development and real-time collaboration with a Houston-based 24/7 operations team.
• Direct interaction with live plant data and operational environments via cyber secure methods.
• Houston residence is preferred.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with AVEVA OMI, AVEVA Historian, PI System Administration, Siemens T3000, Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VI / Mark VIe, ABB control systems, Ignition SCADA, FactoryTalk View, GE iFIX, CIMPLICITY, and/or Remote Operations Centers (ROC).
• Preferred knowledge areas include power generation operations, control narratives, P&IDs, instrumentation diagrams, industrial communication architecture, ISA-101, ISA-18.2 alarm management principles, operator situational awareness practices, industrial human factors, and industrial cybersecurity awareness.
