Job Description
KPIT Technologies GmbH offers an onsite Powertrain HIL Engineer role in Auburn Hills, MI. This position centers on defining, building, integrating, and validating HIL benches and powertrain ECUs, including networks, models, and test automation. You will drive validation efforts and updates across program milestones, while upholding quality and safety standards and coordinating procurement and lab activities.

Responsibilities
- Define the scope of HIL benches, ECU content, and vehicle system requirements including VF, HWI, DBC, and arXML
- Develop and maintain HIL models, frameworks, ControlDesk panels, and test bench configurations
- Integrate and commission HIL benches, ECUs, vehicle networks, and lab vehicles
- Perform open and closed loop validation, functional checkouts, and verification of communications
- Manage HIL updates across program milestones, variants, and vehicle configurations
- Coordinate BOMs, procurement, wiring, and lab build activities
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, model, and network integration issues
- Support program execution through status reporting, KPI tracking, stakeholder coordination, and adherence to quality and safety standards
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in EE, ECE, Mechanical, Automotive, or an equivalent field
- Hands on experience with HIL platforms such as dSPACE, ControlDesk, ConfigurationDesk, CANoe or ETAS
- Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink modeling and simulation
- Knowledge of automotive networks including CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet, and UDS
- Experience with ECU integration, HIL commissioning, and validation
- Vehicle systems analysis experience covering VF, HWI, DBC, and AUTOSAR arXML
- Understanding of electrical systems, wiring harnesses, sensors, and actuators
- Experience in test automation and scripting using Python, CAPL, and MATLAB
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- OEM experience is a plus with ADAS, Body, Chassis, Powertrain, EV, or Autonomous Driving ECUs
- Knowledge of ASPICE, ISO 26262, and the Automotive V-Model
- Experience in automated testing and CI/CD environments
- Ability to troubleshoot ECUs, System HIL, and test environment functionality
- Proven problem solving and clear, concise written communication skills
- Experience in powertrain domains
