Job Description

Northrop Grumman’s Test & Evaluation organization in Melbourne, FL is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer or Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to support instrumentation subsystem test articles. In this onsite individual contributor role, you will design electrical harness assemblies and create Product Definition Packages (PDPs) that drive wiring requirements from concept through flight, ground, lab, and specialty testing.

Work is performed in a fast-paced environment with diverse assignments, requiring coordination across subsystem responsible engineers, IPTs, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines.

What you will do

  • Design electrical harness assemblies connecting sensors for environmental measurements (vibration, temperature, pressure, etc.), data acquisition units, network switches, power distribution equipment, digital bus interfaces, antennas, transmitters, data recorders, and other Weapon Replacement Assembly (WRA) elements.
  • Produce Product Definition Packages (PDPs) including wiring diagrams, schematics, and formboard/stick drawings for flight, ground, lab, and specialty test articles.
  • Collaborate with subsystem responsible engineers, multiple IPTs, and other design stakeholders to ensure PDPs meet requirements for each test article.
  • Develop aircraft electrical wiring designs for functional systems by selecting aircraft-type conductors and electro-mechanical components such as connectors, backshells, relays, switches, circuit breakers, terminal junction systems, termination hardware, and related components.
  • Apply applicable standards and practices, including SAE AS50881, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and proven mil-spec or commercial practices.
  • Create aircraft system wiring diagrams and harness definitions using electrical CAD tools such as Capital Harness, AutoCAD Electrical, HarnesSys or similar tools.
  • Work independently under general supervision while contributing within a multi-disciplined Integrated Product Team (IPT) and interfacing with IPT leadership and other technical disciplines.
  • Support manufacturing and test troubleshooting through the instrumentation subsystem design and PDP outputs.

Basic qualifications

  • Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional or military experience, OR Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, OR STEM Ph.D. and 1 year of related experience.
  • Senior Principal Electrical Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related professional or military experience, OR Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related experience, OR STEM Ph.D. and 4 years of related experience.
  • Instrumentation experience is required.
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any required program access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.

Compensation and location

  • Location: Melbourne, FL (onsite)
  • Salary range (primary level): USD 98,400 to 147,600 per year
  • Salary range (secondary level): USD 122,800 to 184,200 per year
