Job Description

Join Zillow's Agentic AI team as a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to lead hands-on development of multimodal foundational AI technologies. You will prototype, evaluate, and deploy models for perception, language understanding, deep reasoning, and agent decision-making at scale.

This remote role is based in Oregon and offers a salary range of USD 204,400 to 326,600 per year. The position requires a Master’s degree or above and at least seven years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage frameworks like AgentSDK, LangChain, and LangGraph to design, prototype, and develop multi-agent systems that are capable of highly autonomous and context-aware interactions.
  • Utilize advanced GenAI models including reasoning models and real-time voice APIs to build agentic prototypes and progressively convert them into product-level agentic skills deployed to users.
  • Adopt a build, learn, and pivot mindset while upholding a high bar for shipping production-ready solutions.
  • Mentor and guide engineers in selecting technologies for agentic AI solutions and foster a culture of innovation coupled with responsible AI usage.
  • Distill complex research findings and system designs into actionable insights for diverse audiences, including executives.
  • Remain at the forefront of agentic AI paradigms, driving product innovation.
  • Serve as the focal point for applied science projects, driving alignment on timelines and prioritization.
  • Continuously refine processes for experimentation, A/B testing, and production rollouts to balance rapid innovation with reliability and responsible deployment.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree or higher, or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with emphasis on foundational LLM, agentic AI, reinforcement learning, AI planning, or natural language processing.
  • 7+ years of hands-on work building large-scale, high-impact solutions, ideally with recent focus on agent-based systems or multi-agent collaboration.
  • Experience developing dialogue systems capable of long conversations, multi-step reasoning, and context-rich decision-making.
  • Experience deploying and scaling AI services that handle hundreds of millions of daily interactions with high availability, low latency, and robust fault tolerance.
  • A track record of publishing high-impact research in top AI/ML venues is a plus.
