Project Engineer
Job Description
The Project Engineer provides technical leadership to identify, develop, and execute capital projects for a plant in Schaumburg, IL. This onsite role coordinates with internal and external partners to manage scope, budget, schedules, contracts, compliance, and project data from planning through commissioning.
Project Engineering Scope
- Assist in creating pre-project approval documents, including project charter, project management plan, project kick start, and the estimate and milestone schedule.
- Monitor design progress and confirm that deliverables align with established project key components.
- Receive and review design details to ensure full understanding of project deliverables for bid package development and release for construction bidding and field execution.
- Select contractors and contracting methods using engineering ways of working methodology.
- Direct and execute installation, construction, and commissioning for assigned projects.
- Manage scope adherence and secure approvals for changes in line with engineering ways of working methodology.
- Manage and control project budget by providing cost forecasts and cash flow projections through project cost and status reports on at least a monthly basis or as requested by project stakeholders.
- Maintain milestone schedules with integrated detailed scheduling as agreed in the project charter.
- Manage data collection and the feedback process for projects.
- Monitor processes to ensure compliance with quality and GMP requirements in accordance with FDA and OSHA regulations.
- Provide construction management and plant startup assistance as needed to support successful project execution.
- Evaluate, select, and issue contracts for construction firms using bidding and prequalification vetting processes.
- Provide end-to-end, self-directed project management for assigned projects with minimal supervision from the department manager.
- Monitor work output from less senior engineers on the project team as assigned by the department manager.
- Provide technical support to Factory operations.
- Support and participate in Nestlé Continuous Excellence (NCE) and Total Performance Management (TPM) within the Business Unit or assigned factory.
- Maintain an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations, and never implement any change without first assessing its impact on product safety/quality, people safety, and the environment.
Required Qualifications
- Typically holds a BA/BS in an engineering field (Mechanical, Process, Chemical, Electrical) or has equivalent experience, with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience.
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Ability to analyze data.
- Ability to apply problem-solving techniques to resolve issues and implement change.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to complete major projects in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to schedule resources effectively to avoid sacrificing continuous improvement for day-to-day results.
- Additional consideration for those recognized as subject matter experts in a particular engineering field (process, packaging, refrigeration, etc.).
Preferred Experience and Skills
- 3+ years of experience managing capital projects with increasing responsibility and complexity in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or related environment.
- 3+ years of project management experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, or related environment.
- Experience using SAP and/or Microsoft Project.
- TPM experience.

- Salary: USD 97,000 - 117,000 per year
