Restraints Electronics Module Development Engineer

Job Description

This role is part of Product Development Engineering, supporting current and future Ford vehicle programs within Passive Safety Electronics. You will work on restraints-related hardware and controls, including the Restraints Control Module and crash sensors, focusing on design, release, and program application activities with a strong emphasis on timing, quality, and cross-functional execution.

Responsibilities

  • Own Design and Release and Program Application activities for the Passive Safety Electronics system.
  • Stay aligned with program targets for cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing.
  • Ensure components are correctly packaged for each vehicle application.
  • Apply the Global Product Development System process to support engineering execution.
  • Work within Ford engineering tools and processes, including WERS, IVS, FEDE, JFROG, VSEM, and JIRA.
  • Follow Robustness Engineering disciplines such as Quality History, P-Diagram, and FMEA.
  • Apply Six-Sigma methods and issue resolution approaches including 3L5W and 8D.
  • Conduct Design Validation across multiple environments, including breadboard, HIL, bench simulation, and in-vehicle validation.
  • Sign off on the Compliance Demonstration Plan and Report.
  • Support the Sourcing Process, including investment, piece price, and tooling cost reviews.
  • Follow the Technical Design Review process and release parts through the product life cycle.
  • Support Change Control meetings and remain aware of worldwide engineering changes and required follow-through.
  • Audit and update the Bill of Material with accurate part levels and usage for all builds and post-Job 1.
  • Identify requirements for validation, durability, and functional testing.
  • Define and verify engineering prototype requirements at the part level.
  • Provide parts implementation and sign-off in the assembly plant, and assist with quality issues across milestones.
  • Review and manage program direction letter revisions when affected, and support prototype and vehicle launch.
  • Provide technical assistance to suppliers through the supplier engagement process.
  • Participate in core activities aligned to skills, knowledge, and interest.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in the automotive industry.
  • 1+ year of experience with product development.

Relevant Tools and Technologies

  • WERS, IVS, FEDE, JFROG, VSEM, JIRA
  • Six-Sigma, 3L5W, 8D, FMEA
  • CAN networking tools
  • CAD packaging experience, 3DX, CATIA, Team Center
  • HIL

Salary and Grade

This position is a salary grade 7 with a range of USD 99,600 - 166,600 per year. Final salary grade determination is based on the candidate’s skills and experience, and base salary is set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility, and competitive market value.
