Security Engineer

Apple’s Apple Health team is looking for a self-driven Security Engineer to help protect the systems that build health features and support research tools across the health ecosystem. In this role, you will focus on improving security for platform development while helping ensure research participant data remains safe, private, and secure.

Role focus

• Ensure the security of the systems used to develop Apple health features.
• Support releases by running manual application security testing and auditing source code.
• Build security testing plans and execute testing to confirm security controls are present and correctly implemented.
• Develop security tooling to drive security improvement initiatives across the platform.
• Provide security guidance for new Health projects, features, and changes.

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in security engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Extensive knowledge of security principles, technologies, and best practices across multiple domains, including cloud security, network security, application security, and data security.
• Experience with threat modeling, vulnerability management, incident response, and security automation.
• Strong understanding of security risks and challenges in large-scale, complex systems and datasets.
• Background in building scalable software systems and platforms.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to succinctly communicate security concerns to mixed audiences.

Preferred qualifications

• Background in web application development and/or code auditing.
• Experience with security testing and review of medical or health related applications.
• Experience with multi-cloud platform applications.
• Demonstrated contributions to the security community, such as publications, presentations, or open-source projects.

Compensation and location

• Location: San Diego, CA (onsite)
• Base pay: USD 175,000 - 308,500 per year
