Job Description

Hybrid Senior Data Engineer role near Portland, Oregon with a focus on dimensional modeling, governed analytics, and production-grade data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Kimball-style dimensional models and analytical datasets
  • Develop ELT/ETL transformations with tests, documentation, and data contracts
  • Build and maintain ELT/ETL workflows into data warehouses and lakes, including:
    • Orchestration and monitoring
    • Cost and performance tuning
  • Create governed Power BI semantic models and supporting datasets for analytics
  • Enable self-service access while enforcing data quality, lineage, and security policies
  • Promote data and tooling adoption to increase organizational data access and support stakeholder ad hoc analysis and data-driven decisions
  • Explore internal and external data sources and collaborate with BSAs and Data Engineering teams to ingest data into data lake/data bricks/Synapse for analysis and development
  • Elicit and clarify business requirements
  • Document specifications, KPIs, and acceptance tests
  • Deliver demonstrations, office hours, and enablement
  • Implement CI/CD using Git-based workflows, including unit/integration testing and data observability SLAs/SLOs
  • Profile SQL and storage strategies, including caching and compute scaling
  • Contribute to catalog/lineage, RBAC/ABAC, PII handling, and retention standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field (foreign equivalent accepted)
  • 36 months of experience in the job offered or a related position
  • SQL development experience, including complex queries, stored procedures, views, joins, and performance tuning in SQL Server environments
  • ETL/ELT development using SSIS or equivalent tools, including data mapping, transformations, workflow scheduling, and job automation
  • Power BI development: building semantic models, dashboards, and reports
  • Experience creating DAX measures
  • Experience with Power Query (M) transformations
  • Experience publishing to Power BI Service
  • Dimensional modeling using Kimball or equivalent methodologies, including star and snowflake schema design
  • Data validation and profiling, including dataset optimization, incremental refresh, and cross-system data reconciliation
  • Experience working with databases and cloud platforms such as Azure SQL or Snowflake
  • Experience using JIRA for issue tracking and project management
