Senior Data Engineer – Airflow, DBT Core, Kubernetes/OpenShift

Yoh, A Day & Zimmermann Company is hiring a Contract Senior Data Engineer for a hybrid role based in Jersey City, NJ. This position focuses on building and running production-grade data pipelines that support financial and accounting platforms, with hands-on work across orchestration, modeling, and containerized execution in an on-prem environment.

The role will be centered on Apache Airflow DAG development, dbt Core implementation, and Kubernetes/OpenShift operations. You will interact closely with infrastructure to ensure workflows and data transformations execute reliably at scale.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and optimize scalable data pipelines that support financial and accounting platforms
• Support enterprise system migrations and high-volume data processing workloads
• Handle workflow orchestration for data pipeline execution
• Perform data modeling to support enterprise data needs
• Conduct performance tuning for pipeline and workflow efficiency
• Manage distributed workloads in containerized environments

Requirements

• Hands-on Apache Airflow DAG development
• Experience with dbt Core
• Experience with Kubernetes
• On-prem OpenShift experience
• 10+ years of professional experience in data engineering, designing and supporting enterprise-scale data platforms in production
• Hands-on experience deploying and working with dbt and Apache Airflow on Kubernetes, specifically in an on-prem OpenShift environment
• Closer interaction with infrastructure, including Kubernetes operations, Airflow design and implementation, and hands-on dbt model development in an on-prem setup
• Deeper practical experience in dbt and Airflow within Kubernetes-based, on-prem environments
