Job Description
In this senior Software Engineer role, you will help design and maintain data workflows and automation pipelines that keep operational processes reliable and production-ready. Working onsite in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, you will partner with data engineers, platform teams, and stakeholders to deliver workflow orchestration that is scalable, observable, and efficient across data engineering, analytics, and operational use cases.
This position is with General Dynamics Information Technology and supports a strong focus on automation using Apache Airflow, along with modern software practices across Linux, scripting, and cloud-adjacent tooling.
Role Overview
- Software engineering position in Software Engineering.
- Location: Annapolis Junction, MD (onsite workplace).
- Requisition: RQ231067 (Regular position).
- Salary range: USD 152,150 - 205,850 per year.
- Clearance level: Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI w/ Polygraph required).
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required.
- Travel: None.
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain data workflows and automation pipelines using Apache Airflow.
- Develop workflow orchestration that is reliable, scalable, and observable to support data engineering, analytics, and operational use cases.
- Collaborate with data engineers, platform teams, and stakeholders to help ensure workflows are efficient, secure, and production ready.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science.
- Experience: 5+ years of related experience.
- Security clearance: TS/SCI w/ Polygraph required.
- Experience using the Linux CLI and Linux tools.
- Experience developing Bash scripts to automate manual processes.
- Recent software development experience using Python and Java.
- Experience with Apache Airflow, including DAG design, scheduling, operators, and sensors to orchestrate, schedule, and monitor complex workflows.
- Experience using distributed big data processing engines, including Apache Spark.
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, containerd, and Podman.
- Experience with Git source control system.
Preferred / Desired Skills
- Experience using the Atlassian Tool Suite (JIRA, Confluence).
- Familiarity with AWS Cloud Services and infrastructure.
