Senior Data Scientist (Internal Audit Product Engineering)
Job Description
Navy Federal Credit Union is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to help strengthen Internal Audit decision-making through data-driven insights and technology-enabled products. In this onsite role, you will build audit-focused data products, automate analytical workflows, and apply AI-enabled solutions across the audit lifecycle while emphasizing data governance, data quality, and responsible AI practices.
Role Overview
As a senior member of the Internal Audit Product Engineering effort, you will develop and enhance analytical capabilities used by auditors and business stakeholders. The work includes building data products and pipelines, supporting automated control testing and continuous monitoring, and translating modeling outputs into clear charts, tables, and documentation that supports stakeholder decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance data products, data pipelines, analytical models, dashboards, and automation solutions for Internal Audit analytics
- Design, build, and enhance agentic AI and workflow automation solutions using AI technologies to improve audit process efficiencies
- Partner with auditors, business stakeholders, and technology teams to understand requirements and translate business challenges into scalable analytical solutions
- Support automated control testing, population-based analytics, continuous monitoring, and audit automation initiatives
- Use modeling and trend analysis to evaluate data and deliver insights
- Apply best practices for ethical AI and support responsible AI practices
- Transform data into charts, tables, or other formats that support effective decision-making
- Build working relationships with team members and subject matter experts
- Lead small projects and initiatives
- Use effective written and verbal communication to document and present analysis findings to diverse stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in exploratory data analysis
- Basic understanding of business and operating environment
- Strong foundation in statistics
- Experience with programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics
- Working knowledge of SQL and one or more of: R, Python, Hadoop, SAS, SPSS, Scala, AWS
- Ability to execute model lifecycle work
- Technical writing, data storytelling, and technical presentation skills
- Research skills and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of procedures, instructions, and validation techniques
- Demonstrated communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar quantitative field
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's/PhD degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering
- Experience with Alteryx, Databricks, Azure Data Lake, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Power Automate, Power Apps, and Azure AI Foundry
- Experience using Python and data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, PySpark, Scikit-learn, or similar frameworks
- Experience building dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI or similar visualization tools
- Experience managing end-to-end product and solution lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, UAT, deployment, and ongoing support
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality controls, data lineage, and data management best practices
- Experience working within audit, risk management, compliance, or financial services
- Experience working in Agile product development environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated curiosity and an innovation mindset, including identifying opportunities to automate manual processes

Compensation and Schedule
- Salary: USD 99,400 - 155,850 per year
- Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
