Senior Lead AI Engineer

Capital One is hiring a Senior Lead AI Engineer in New York, NY (onsite) to modernize enterprise AI and ML workflow orchestration and user experiences in a highly regulated environment. The role focuses on agentic infrastructure, managed AutoML, and automated governance to support well-governed no-code and low-code model development.

Key Responsibilities

• Modernize workflows: Advance the orchestration layer and UI by applying generative AI capabilities and self-serve tooling, enabling governed low-code and no-code AI development for business domain experts.
• Build agentic-driven infrastructure: Modernize platform services with agentic infrastructure designed for reliability, scalability, and security, while consistently adhering to enterprise guardrails.
• Drive AutoML innovation: Scale managed AutoML offerings for tabular and time-series data to reduce solution timelines from weeks to days.
• Engineer AI-driven controls: Evolve the core component marketplace by developing automated governance frameworks.

Required Qualifications

• Education and experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 6 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master’s degree in the same areas plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies.
• Programming: At least 6 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience: 7 years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud).
• System delivery: Experience designing, developing, integrating, delivering, and supporting complex AI systems.
• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor engineering teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
• Algorithm development: Experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies (e.g., LLM Inference, Similarity Search and VectorDBs, Guardrails, Memory) using Python, C++, C#, Java, or Golang.
• Performance optimization: Experience optimizing training and inference software to improve hardware utilization, latency, throughput, and cost.
• Research alignment: Interest in staying current with AI research and applying novel techniques in production when appropriate.
• Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex AI concepts to peers.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: USD 250,800 - 286,200 per year.
