Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Uber Freight Marketplace is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to modernize and take end-to-end ownership of ML models that support the UF marketplace. In this role, you will build and drive model performance for key forecasting and decisioning use cases, then work with backend engineers to productionize those models reliably.

This onsite position is based in Chicago, IL, with collaboration grounded in Uber’s in-office approach unless full remote work is approved.

Role scope

• End-to-end ownership of ML models for the UF marketplace, including cost prediction, booking probability, demand elasticity, and related modeling needs.
• Partner with backend engineers to deploy models into production and ensure they continue to work as expected after launch.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience developing ML models to solve business problems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks, such as PyTorch.
• Product experience is a strong plus for this role.
• Adaptive model development to align with business context.
• Previous experience with state-of-the-art marketplace technology is preferred.
• Experience with causal inference and constrained optimization.

Compensation

• Salary range (Chicago, IL): USD $202,000 - $224,000 per year.
• Salary range note: For Chicago, IL-based roles, the base salary range for this role is USD $182,000 per year - USD $202,000 per year.
