Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Modernize the Uber Freight marketplace team by owning end-to-end machine learning models that support predictive modeling and marketplace optimization. This onsite role in Sunnyvale, CA pairs deep ML ownership with close collaboration with backend engineers to take models into production and monitor performance.

In this Staff Machine Learning Engineer position within Uber Freight Marketplace, you will drive modeling work across key marketplace signals such as cost prediction and booking probability, with additional focus on demand elasticity. You will be responsible for how these ML systems behave in the real marketplace environment, ensuring they deliver expected results after deployment.

What you’ll do

• Provide end-to-end ownership of ML models used across the UF marketplace, including cost prediction, booking probability, and demand elasticity.
• Partner with backend engineers to productionize models and ensure they operate as expected after release.

What you’ll bring

• 6+ years of experience developing ML models to solve business problems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Familiarity with modern AI/ML frameworks, including PyTorch.

Preferred qualifications

• Product experience is a strong plus.
• Adaptive development of ML models to the business context is critical.
• Experience with state-of-the-art marketplace technology.
• Experience with causal inference and constrained optimization.

Compensation & benefits

Base salary range (Sunnyvale, CA): USD 232,000 - 258,000 per year.
