Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Advertiser Growth
Job Description
Unity’s Advertiser Growth team builds the systems that help campaigns deliver effectively while safeguarding Unity’s financial integrity. In this onsite Senior Machine Learning Engineering role in Olympia, WA, you will provide technical leadership across pacing control, generative creative automation, marketplace experimentation, and mission-critical billing reliability.
What you’ll do
- Design and improve pacing controllers including PID and probabilistic forecasting to smooth advertiser spend across multiple time zones and traffic spikes, supporting stable marketplace delivery.
- Own backend integrations for Generative AI models such as Diffusion and LLMs to automate the creation of image and video assets aligned to campaign goals and formats.
- Build and scale infrastructure for rapid experimentation, including A/B testing, switchback tests, and long-term holdouts, to measure effects on advertiser ROI and overall platform health.
- Architect and maintain high-throughput billing pipelines that process billions of events with 100% accuracy, connecting real-time ad delivery to financial reconciliation.
- Analyze complex financial and marketplace data to refine the balance between spend velocity and advertiser performance, using experimentation outputs to tune pacing and billing logic.
Required qualifications
- Advanced degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years working on ads delivery systems.
- Extensive experience creating and operating large-scale, low-latency backend systems using languages such as Java, Go, or Scala.
- Deep familiarity with budget control systems, feedback loops, and/or spend-prediction algorithms.
- Proven experience building or scaling experimentation platforms, including strong knowledge of variance reduction, interference/network effects, and metric design in a marketplace context.
- A track record on mission-critical pipelines (billing, payments, or clearinghouses) where precision, idempotency, and fault tolerance are essential.
- Experience or strong interest in backend workflows to serve, scale, and store Generative AI models for creative asset generation.
- Proficiency with real-time stream processing using Kafka, Flink, or Spark, applied to event-based charging and real-time performance feedback.
- Proven ability to lead multi-quarter technical roadmaps and mentor senior engineers in a high-growth environment.
