Senior Mechanical Engineer 1 - Nuclear
Job Description
Work on nuclear power plant systems while joining a team focused on safety, innovation, and sustainability at Sargent & Lundy’s Nuclear Power Group. This onsite role supports design, licensing-related engineering, and modernization efforts that help advance clean, carbon-free energy. Depending on the role, you may use data, automation, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools to improve research, analysis, engineering, and design workflows.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear), you will prepare and review engineering deliverables that support modifications and operation of operating nuclear power plants. You may also lead project teams and help shape technical options by evaluating studies and alternatives.
- Prepare or review modification packages for operating nuclear power plants
- Prepare or review functional mechanical drawings and/or drawings for nuclear power plant systems
- Prepare or review engineering analyses and evaluations to support modifications and system operation
- Prepare or review technical specifications and procurement documents for plant equipment
- Prepare or review vendor bid evaluations for plant equipment
- Prepare or review studies and options evaluations for modifications to operating nuclear power plants
- Develop engineering cost estimates for small to mid-sized client-requested work scopes
- Visit client office and/or plant site locations to interface with clients and present engineering task status
- Lead engineering project teams
What You Bring
- BS or MS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program, with academic coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfers
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the power industry
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations applicable to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants
- PE license beneficial, but not required

Compensation Range: $84,762 - $129,498 per year
