Senior Platform Security Engineer

Dallas, TX $75 - $85/hr Contract Posted 25d ago

Job Description

Lorien is hiring a Senior Platform Security Engineer in Dallas, TX to strengthen security for connected vehicles. This contract role focuses on low-level platform defenses, spanning hardware and firmware trust, cryptography, and trusted execution to help prevent vehicle theft, unauthorized use, and system compromise.

You will research and deliver next-generation security technologies, moving from experimentation to prototyping, validation, and production deployment. The work sits at the intersection of embedded systems and security engineering, with an emphasis on designing trustworthy access mechanisms and investigating how real-world attackers attempt to bypass them.

What you will do

  • Research, design, and develop next-generation technologies to strengthen vehicle access security and reduce risks such as theft, unauthorized use, and compromise
  • Build security solutions that establish trust at the lowest platform levels, starting with hardware and firmware
  • Lead projects from concept and experimentation through prototyping, validation, production implementation, and deployment
  • Partner with hardware, embedded software, systems, and product engineering teams to turn security concepts into deployable solutions
  • Design and develop secure platform capabilities spanning device identity, trusted execution, authentication, cryptography, and hardware-backed security
  • Investigate emerging attack techniques targeting connected and electronic vehicle systems and develop new defenses
  • Assess potential attacker approaches such as bypassing, cloning, replaying, emulating, or manipulating vehicle access technologies, then implement countermeasures
  • Create proof-of-concept solutions and advanced prototypes to advance automotive security
  • Contribute to platform architecture decisions that influence long-term security for future vehicle products
  • Resolve complex technical challenges across hardware, firmware, cryptography, and embedded systems

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or another relevant technical discipline
  • 6-8+ years of overall related engineering experience
  • Strong background developing firmware, embedded software, platform software, or other low-level systems close to hardware
  • Deep understanding of secure boot, root of trust, chain of trust, trusted execution environments, device identity, and hardware-backed security
  • Proficiency in C and C++
  • Experience with microcontrollers, SoCs, embedded processors, or security-focused hardware architectures
  • Knowledge of cryptography, authentication protocols, key management, secure provisioning, and secure communications
  • Experience designing security solutions for automotive systems, connected devices, IoT products, wireless technologies, cellular platforms, or telecommunications equipment
  • Familiarity with bootloaders, firmware architecture, embedded Linux, operating system startup processes, and platform initialization
  • Ability to evaluate systems from an attacker perspective, including physical or logical bypass, cloning, spoofing, or manipulation
  • Experience conducting technical research, building prototypes, and translating new ideas into deployable, scalable solutions
