Senior Powertrain Engineer
Job Description
Lead propulsion development and validation through engine testing, EFI calibration, simulation, and hands-on diagnostics in an onsite role.
Responsibilities
- Develop engine systems and supporting subsystems
- Design and develop new engines
- Execute dyno runs and calibrate EFI system maps
- Draft and run test plans
- Produce test reports and documentation as requested
- Interface with customers and support questions related to engine package design
- Travel to customer sites to support engine diagnostics (international travel is common)
- Diagnose failure modes and troubleshoot propulsion performance issues
- Perform propeller analysis
- Conduct thermal analysis
- Build and validate engine simulation work
- Perform EFI calibration and optimization activities
- Conduct dyno testing and new product testing and evaluation
- Manage a group of test engineers
- Create and maintain documentation, drawings, and test reporting outputs as needed
Requirements
- 10+ years of powertrain related experience (preferred: 10 years)
- Experience with engine designs, preferably 2-stroke
- Experience with engine tuning and EFI calibration maps
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Scientific Process
- MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of combustion process and thermodynamics
- Basic understanding of 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines
- MATLAB experience
- Python experience
- National Instruments data acquisition hardware and analysis experience

- Salary: $90,000 to $130,000 per year
- Ability to relocate: Tucson, AZ 85710 (employer-provided relocation package required)
- US work authorization check: US Citizen or green card holder
Notes & Disclaimers
- Engine noise levels are within OSHA guidelines when proper PPE is worn during engine operation
- Transporting documents and parts to customers and vendors in the Tucson area is required; transportation within Tucson is not compensated
- Travel outside Tucson is compensated using standard GSA approved travel and lodging rates
