Job Description
RWE Americas, LLC invites applications for a Senior Software Engineer II to advance the Smart Data Pipeline platform on Azure, overseeing the automation of data ingestion, cleansing, analytics, forecasting, alerting, and equipment lifecycle management for wind assets, with potential expansion to solar and BESS. The role blends hands-on development, architectural leadership, and cross-functional ownership, including mentoring engineers and shaping technical strategy. This is an on-site position based in Austin, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Design and own scalable, cloud‑native data pipelines that integrate disparate data systems across the SDP platform.
- Define overall system architecture, data flows, and service boundaries spanning ingestion, pre‑analysis, analysis, alerting, and monitoring.
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams, blueprints, and reusable design patterns to guide development teams.
- Drive technology choices, platform standards, and architectural guidelines; lead architecture reviews and technical decisions.
- Lead the design and implementation of data collection, pre‑analysis, analysis, forecasting, alerting, and VMM pipelines, ensuring data quality and reliability.
- Deliver solutions on Azure based platforms including Azure Functions, pipeline scheduling, cloud storage, and data lake integration across DEV, UAT, and PROD environments.
- Define and enforce CI/CD practices, infrastructure automation, and observability frameworks (logging, alerting, monitoring dashboards).
- Lead integration of measurement systems such as lidar, met mast, and sensor networks with enterprise IT platforms to ensure data consistency and traceability.
- Oversee end‑to‑end feature delivery (Design Build Deploy Operate); review code across services and enforce security, performance, and coding standards.
- Define and uphold engineering standards, coding guidelines, and architectural patterns; align with enterprise architecture and data governance policies.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between product owners, stakeholders, and development teams, translating requirements into architectures and delivery plans.
- Mentor engineers across levels and lead knowledge sharing, documentation, and capability-building initiatives to sustain engineering excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry certification or experience.
- Azure related certifications are strongly preferred (examples include AZ-900, AZ-204, AZ-305) or an equivalent cloud credential.
- At least seven years of relevant software engineering or data platform experience, including hands‑on development and technical leadership roles.
- Proven track record designing and managing complex, multi‑stage data pipelines (ingestion, analysis, forecasting, alerting) with robust data cleaning, transformation, and validation workflows.
- Experience delivering Azure‑based solutions, including Kubernetes (AKS), containers, Azure Functions, data lake integration, and multi‑environment deployment management.
- Background with distributed systems, microservices, messaging (RabbitMQ), event‑driven architectures, and API design and integration.
- Experience designing access control for both human‑to‑system and system‑to‑system interactions.
- Proven ability to lead large, enterprise‑scale IT implementations involving multiple workstreams and stakeholders, with Agile or hybrid methodologies.
- Strong frontend experience with React and TypeScript, backend proficiency in C#, Python, and Terraform; proficient in SQL and handling large datasets in Parquet and CSV formats.
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows servers, ownership of Dockerfiles for both, and management of third‑party SDP integrations (such as Bullfrog).
- Experience collaborating with global teams across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
- Nice to have: Dapr, measurement systems (lidar, met mast, SCADA), time‑series ML pipelines, climate or wind resource data processing.
- Hands‑on experience with Azure Databricks and Delta Lake, including medallion architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and Delta Live Tables or Lakeflow pipelines; Apache Airflow experience is highly desirable.
- Ability to design cost‑effective systems for suboptimal deployments, with strong diagnostics and problem‑solving skills to reduce reliance on specialized teams.
- Deep understanding of Azure architecture, distributed systems, and enterprise data platform design; strong CI/CD, DevOps, and observability capabilities.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead cross‑team initiatives and translate business needs into technical plans.
- Demonstrated mentoring ability across multiple levels and a commitment to engineering excellence and innovation.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects and domains simultaneously while maintaining high quality and timely delivery.
- Strong capability to produce architecture documentation, technical specifications, and engineering standards; proficient with tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, GitHub, or equivalents.
- Intellectually curious, self‑directed, and committed to staying current with emerging technologies and practices; interest in renewable energy is advantageous.
- This is an on‑site role with periodic travel to other RWE Americas offices and field locations; ability to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods.
