Requirements
- Bachelorβs Degree
- 7+ years of senior software engineering experience using Ruby and Ruby on Rails or Python with JavaScript
- Proven software architectural design experience, including data persistence and API design
- Strong understanding of networking and web browser protocols
- Advanced proficiency with Unix-like systems and comfort using the terminal
- Advanced SQL and database schema design knowledge
- Strong Git and GitHub proficiency
- Experience collaborating with other departments or teams
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills to respond effectively to needs

Ideal qualifications
- Experience with Sagemaker, AWS Polly, and Azure Speech Service
- Experience with SQL, Postgres, Redis, and Elasticsearch
- Track record of building and deploying scalable, high-capacity applications in cloud environments, especially AWS
- Strong ability to architect solutions for scalability and performance
- Experience with LLMs and AI tooling for developers
- Ruby experience is highly preferred
- Background in ed tech, education, language learning, or a related industry
- Familiarity with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and 2.1 AA compliance
Location
Boston area, hybrid or remote options within the Eastern US Time Zone. The role requires current residency in the United States within the Eastern Time Zone. Ideal candidates will be near the Boston office and able to commit to a Tuesday and Thursday hybrid schedule. Relocation assistance is not available.
Salary
Base salary range is $140,000 to $150,000 per year. This is a salaried role eligible for an annual incentive based on individual and organizational performance.
