Sr Data Engineer 1 – Enterprise IT Data Analytics
Job Description
Exelon’s Enterprise IT Data Analytics group is looking for a Senior Data Engineer 1 to design, build, test, and maintain IT data solutions under supervision from a Principal Data Engineer or Manager. The role supports project work and ongoing operations, with potential to coordinate tasks for other team members. Responsibilities
- Plan, document, and execute work activities for projects, sub-projects, or processes; for small projects, analyze requirements, design, build, and test IT software solutions in line with IT project management standards; for operations and maintenance, enhance or support existing IT products and processes to meet defined service levels (around 45%).
- Contribute to documentation for products and services, applying best practices to improve offerings for business partners and monitor adherence to defined standards within the team.
- Maintain and strengthen engagement with business and IT partners and other stakeholders.
- Foster a positive team environment by assisting and mentoring less experienced personnel.
- Continuously expand technical knowledge and business acumen within the data analytics discipline.
- Solve complex problems, including collaboration with vendors and other IT professionals as needed.
- Help develop work plans for project phases with limited oversight and address unexpected challenges with minimal assistance.
- Support Exelon Utility Analytics initiatives through data-driven services.
- Design, implement, and enforce security policies and controls to protect systems and data; analyze data security systems and produce usage reports for management.
- Make informed decisions on monitoring settings, including sample size, criticality levels, and opportunities for self-healing.
- Drive innovation by evaluating lessons learned and applying improvements to future tasks.
- Operate with limited supervision while delivering results.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline and 4–7 years of relevant experience in data warehouse design, business intelligence reporting, and ETL/ELT processing, or a 6–9 year equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Big Data technologies and their impact on the company’s systems infrastructure.
- Experience implementing enterprise-wide data standards, including business definitions and naming conventions.
- Experience participating in user interviews as part of a systems development team to gather information for analysis or technical work.
- Ability to use scripting tools such as PowerShell or Ansible to automate tasks, create reports, and troubleshoot existing scripts.
- Solid understanding of the System Development Life Cycle and how it fits into the overall development lifecycle.
- Strong capability to communicate complex concepts to users, management, customers, and others with varying levels of subject-matter knowledge.
- Thorough understanding of using a variety of tools effectively in complex applications.
- Knowledge of standard monitoring tool capabilities.
