Sr Software Engineer (API & MCP Governance and Enablement)
Job Description
Build reliable, governed APIs and enablement capabilities while helping advance the bank’s technology transformation. This onsite Sr Software Engineer role blends hands-on engineering with agile and DevOps responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on software reliability and compliance/security best practices. You will drive API and MCP governance and enablement, helping teams adopt standards through coaching, workshops, and practical enablement.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, test, operate, and maintain software products and services
- Own delivery end-to-end by writing production-ready, testable code and taking full stack responsibility
- Create optimal designs aligned to architectural best practices, factoring in scalability, reliability, and performance for affected systems and contexts
- Analyze failures, propose design changes, and promote operational improvements based on what you learn
- Make sound design and coding decisions with a focus on customer experience
- Incorporate feedback from code reviews to meet engineering standards
- Conduct code reviews that provide guidance on engineering best practices and adherence to development procedures
- Ensure product development follows compliance and security best practices across all aspects
- Apply software reliability engineering standards through development standards and day-to-day execution
- Identify emerging technology opportunities and contribute to best practices supporting technology transformation
- Support a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Critically review tasks to ensure they are appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery, and anticipate blockers and delays before escalation
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
- Five to six years of relevant experience
- 5+ years in API Governance, API Architecture, API Product Management, Developer Enablement, Solution Architecture, Technology Risk, or related disciplines
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, OpenAPI Specifications, API Lifecycle Management, API Versioning, Authentication, Authorization, and Error Handling Standards
- Experience defining and implementing API standards, design guidelines, governance frameworks, and lifecycle controls across enterprise environments
- Proven ability to drive adoption of technical standards through developer coaching, consultation, workshops, and enablement programs
- Understanding of GenAI Enablement, Responsible AI Practices, AI Risk Controls, AI Gateways, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) concepts
- Ability to translate complex security, privacy, compliance, architecture, and risk requirements into actionable engineering guidance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including creation of technical documentation, standards, training materials, decision records, and executive summaries
- Preferred experience with API Management Platforms (Apigee, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, Solo.io or similar), API Developer Portals, AI Agents, and work within regulated financial services environments
- Ability to work from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week
