Job Description
Okta is seeking a Staff AI Security Engineer to join our Bellevue, WA hybrid team. This leadership role defines the technical vision and architecture for secure AI models, agentic workflows, and autonomous systems, while mentoring engineers and building scalable AI security infrastructure.
With a focus on hands-on security controls and strategic collaboration across product, security, and infrastructure, you will bolster our enterprise AI initiatives against emerging threats and help engineering teams move quickly and safely.
Responsibilities
- Secure AI implementations: design and deploy enterprise guardrails, gateways, and protective controls to shield agentic workflows from evolving threats.
- Agent hardening and sandboxing: craft security architectures for both local and hosted agents to mitigate tool-calling, prompt injection, goal misalignment, and data exfiltration risks.
- Secure design patterns and tools: develop secure paving roads and developer tools that enable safe and rapid AI feature delivery.
- Threat modeling for AI workflows: lead threat modeling and security reviews for agentic AI systems, deployments, and ecosystems.
- AI discovery and visibility: build systems to discover, inventory, and assess AI usage and data flows across the organization.
- Agentic platform infrastructure: design and operate internal AI security platforms and integrate AI capabilities that automate complex security operations.
- Technical leadership and mentorship: align engineering, product, security, and infrastructure strategies while mentoring engineers and security practitioners.
Requirements
- AI security expertise: deep understanding of the AI threat landscape, including OWASP, MITRE ATLAS, and NIST AI RMF, with practical experience in prompt injection, excessive agency, and related AI threats.
- Software engineering: 8+ years of security engineering or backend software development, strong coding proficiency in Python or Go, and hands-on cloud experience.
- Agentic framework knowledge: experience securing or auditing agentic frameworks (such as LangChain, Strands, Claude Agent SDK, or custom tool-calling agents) in sandboxed environments.
- Architectural expertise: proven ability to design scalable cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), API gateways, proxy architectures, and enterprise access controls.
- Paved road construction: track record of building developer-first security tools and platform controls that preserve engineering velocity.
- Technical leadership: strong communication skills with experience driving technical strategy, influencing engineering leaders, and mentoring engineers.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or equivalent practical experience.
