SW Cyber Security Engineer

This mid level software cyber security engineer role offers a hybrid work arrangement in the DC metro area, with monthly onsite days in Reston, Virginia. The position supports a leading healthcare payer and focuses on application security testing and AWS cloud vulnerability management.

Located in Reston, VA, this role combines hands on security engineering with collaboration across development and security teams, advancing secure SDLC practices and DevSecOps within a Java and AWS environment.

What you will do

• Conduct application security testing in a Java and AWS setup using tools such as Checkmarx, Contrast Security, TideLift, Burp Suite, OWASP Dependency Check, or Fortify.
• Help implement secure SDLC, DevSecOps practices, and automate security within CI/CD pipelines.
• Identify, triage, validate, and prioritize remediation activities using a risk based approach.
• Harden AWS cloud environments and support container security across Kubernetes, Helm, and Docker.
• Integrate security automation and metrics reporting with Jira, ServiceNow, or other risk management platforms.
• Collaborate across CI/CD and source code management tools including Bitbucket, GitLab, GitHub, and Jenkins.

What you will need

• Hands on experience with application security, secure SDLC, and DevSecOps practices.
• Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, or Python with a focus on secure coding and vulnerability management.
• Solid understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and networking fundamentals.
• Experience with container security involving Kubernetes, Helm, and Docker.
• Direct experience with AWS cloud security.
• Familiarity with application security testing tools such as Checkmarx, Contrast Security, TideLift, Burp Suite, OWASP Dependency Check, or Fortify.
• Experience with CI/CD and source control platforms such as Bitbucket, GitLab, GitHub, and Jenkins.
• Experience integrating security tooling with Jira, ServiceNow, or similar platforms.

Nice to have

• OSCP or CEH certification preferred.
• Background in healthcare or other regulated industries.
