Job Description

Chickasaw Nation Industries, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineer to support complex system development from early concept through verification and validation. In this onsite role in Fort Belvoir, VA, you will help translate mission and customer needs into measurable requirements, architectures, and engineering solutions while collaborating across multiple technical disciplines.

Role summary

The Systems Engineer analyzes, designs, and manages complex systems across the system lifecycle by converting customer and operational needs into technical requirements, architectures, and engineering artifacts. The position supports requirements and interface management, verification/validation, and may assist with MBSE or digital engineering and systems modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze customer, mission, and operational needs and translate them into clear, measurable system and subsystem requirements.
  • Develop, decompose, allocate, and maintain system requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain system architectures, functional analyses, system models, and technical baselines.
  • Perform functional decomposition and allocate system functions to appropriate subsystems and components.
  • Define system interfaces, dependencies, data flows, and interactions between subsystems and external systems.
  • Conduct technical analyses and trade studies to evaluate performance, capabilities, risks, and design alternatives.
  • Support development of system concepts, technical specifications, design documentation, and engineering artifacts.
  • Establish and maintain requirements traceability from customer needs through design, implementation, and verification.
  • Support system-level verification and validation and ensure requirements are appropriately verified.
  • Participate in system requirements reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and other engineering reviews.
  • Identify and assess technical risks, constraints, dependencies, and opportunities throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, cybersecurity, network, integration, test, and other teams to address system-level requirements and objectives.
  • Evaluate proposed technical solutions and assess impacts to performance, interfaces, requirements, and overall architecture.
  • Support system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and deployment activities as required.
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation, including requirements, architecture, interface documentation, and technical reports.
  • Support configuration management and technical change control processes.
  • Use requirements management, systems engineering, and modeling tools to develop and maintain technical artifacts.
  • Support MBSE and digital engineering initiatives, including maintaining SysML-based system models when applicable.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts, analyses, and recommendations to engineering teams, program leadership, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering activities and deliverables comply with applicable customer requirements, industry standards, and program processes.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain, maintain, and access classified information at the Public Trust level.
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of four (4) years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Location and compensation

  • Location: Fort Belvoir, VA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 95,000 - 130,000 per year

Physical demands

  • Work is primarily performed in an office/warehouse setting.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, occasionally above head.
  • Regularly required to twist at the waist, climb and descend stairs while carrying objects.
  • Ability to speak and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
  • Works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Regularly exposed to general office and general office machinery noise.
  • May be exposed to warehouse, truck or forklift noise.
