Job Description
The Turbomachinery Component Design Engineer – Research and Technology role focuses on turbomachinery component design in Indianapolis, offering hybrid work arrangements. The position emphasizes delivering on time design definitions and artifacts while integrating sub-system requirements, supported by a strong engineering foundation and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Develop design solutions for components, assemblies, and full engines, balancing safety, manufacturability, physical robustness, and functional performance, while addressing unit cost, lifecycle cost, weight, maintainability, and repair considerations.
- Define stakeholder requirements across manufacturing, project customers, airframers and partners, and analysis teams, aligning with policies through both conventional and future-state approaches, including Model Based Definition within the Model Based Environment.
- Create and employ automated and integrated tool sets; when repeat designs are anticipated, establish automated workflows that adhere to house style, standard features, and standard assessments to define optimal designs as part of automated MBD, manufacturing, and measurement definitions.
- Apply Robust Design, Systems Engineering, xFMEA risk management, and Design in Context to achieve right first time outcomes.
- Maintain Quality Assurance by verifying design documents, models, and drawings in accordance with RRMS technical requirements and pursuing proactive zero defects objectives.
- Perform analyses using formula-based calculations and automated workflows for dimensionaling parts and components (stability, stiffness, profiles, balance point, weights) and, when appropriate, apply analytical rules and tools to validate the design against requirements.
- Produce technical documents in compliance with process, knowledge management, information, and data policies.
- Manage product configuration and ensure data integrity.
- Lead sub-system integration utilizing Systems Engineering and Robust Design tools to ensure sub-system design attributes meet the agreed requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 1+ years of related hands-on experience
- Master’s degree in Engineering
- JD or PhD in Engineering
