This senior mechanical engineering position focuses on leading design and development of mechanical systems for complex buildings within the AEC sector. The role coordinates across disciplines, mentors staff, and applies expertise in plumbing and fire protection design to deliver projects from concept through construction closeout.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed mechanical surveys
- Perform engineering tasks and collaborate with engineers and designers to advance projects in design
- Bring multiple project types from design inception to construction closeout
- Review mechanical designs for accuracy and compliance
- Conduct Construction Administration including site observation reports, punch lists, submittals, and RFI responses
- Troubleshoot complex field mechanical issues
- Research and prepare mechanical engineering reports for feasibility studies, life cycle analyses, and similar assessments
- Explain complex mechanical engineering principles with internal and external clients
- Participate in business development activities
- Ensure engineering tasks stay within the project budget
- Ensure engineering tasks align with the project schedule
- Provide feedback to supervisors, project managers, and principals regarding project performance
- Address change orders and prepare responses for clients
- Estimate required engineering hours to complete tasks and prepare corresponding engineering fees
- There may be direct supervisory responsibilities associated with this position
- Studio directors may assign engineers, associates or co-ops to be under your supervision
Requirements
- Professional Engineering license is required
- ASHRAE credential requirements listed
- SMACNA credential requirements listed
- LEED AP certification
- Certified Energy Manager
- Well Building credential
- ASHRAE Commissioning Professional (BCxP)
- ASHRAE Assessment Professional (BEAP)
- ASHRAE Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP)
- ASHRAE High Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP)
- ASHRAE Certified HVAC Designer (CHD)
- 10+ years in an MEP engineering consulting firm on multiple building types
- 6+ years as a licensed professional engineer
- Project experience across multiple market segments preferred (Healthcare, Education, Commercial, Civic, Retail)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
- Proficiency in Microsoft Teams
- Proficient in Autodesk Revit
