AI Engineer

Systek, Inc. provides SETA support to government teams building and evaluating AI-enabled applications and tools in Hanover, MD (onsite). In this role, you will serve as an AI/ML subject matter expert, helping ensure AI efforts stay technically grounded, operationally relevant, and mission-ready.

What you’ll do

• Support reviews of AI architectures, development approaches, model usage patterns, and technical risk areas.
• Track rapid changes in the AI ecosystem and provide recommendations on emerging tools and practices.
• Assess solutions that use LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, tool use, agentic workflows, orchestration layers, and prompt pipelines.
• Advise on core AI engineering considerations including latency, reliability, observability, testability, guardrails, and data flow.
• Evaluate and compare modern AI frameworks, agentic libraries, and experimentation harnesses to determine suitability for mission use cases.
• Support testing and evaluation of AI tools, including performance assessment, qualitative review, and workflow validation.
• Contribute to technical guidance, prototypes, engineering recommendations, and briefings for government stakeholders.
• Collaborate with platform engineers, product leads, mission users, and government leadership to keep AI efforts aligned with operational needs.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or computer science.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in systems engineering supporting DoD programs (up to 5 years of AI experience in a commercial setting may be substituted).
• Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance required.
• Some travel may be required.

Preferred qualifications

• Degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or computer programming.
• Relevant certifications in cloud, systems engineering, cybersecurity, or platform operations.
