Job Description
Shelter Insurance is hiring an AI Engineer for an on-site, full-time role in Columbia, MO. This position focuses on delivering governed AI experiences with an emphasis on responsible rollout, from experimentation through enterprise testing, security, observability, and operational ownership.
In this role, you will help build and support AI solutions that require disciplined engineering practices and strong collaboration across senior engineering, architecture, and product leadership.
Responsibilities
- Implement and support governed AI experiences under direction from senior engineers, architects, and product leaders.
- Maintain a balance between rapid experimentation and the requirements of enterprise testing, including security, observability, and operational ownership.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience), required.
- Experience developing software, data products, AI applications, or enterprise integrations.
- Hands-on experience with Python and REST APIs, plus familiarity with SQL and Git, required.
- Working knowledge of large language models, prompt engineering, embeddings, vector search, RAG, and agentic workflows, required.
- Experience with Snowflake, Glean, or comparable data, search, knowledge-management, or AI platforms.
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle, including testing, monitoring, and secure development.
- Strong analytical skills along with written and verbal communication.
Preferred
- Experience building with Snowflake Cortex, Snowflake CoCo, Glean agents, or similar enterprise AI platforms.
- Experience with evaluation harnesses, prompt/version management, observability, or AI quality measurement.
- Experience in insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated data environments.
- Familiarity with identity, role-based access control, data classification, and privacy-by-design practices.

Compensation & Location
$90,646 - $112,382 per year, Columbia, MO (on-site).
