AI Engineer

The AI Engineer role at Photon focuses on building, improving, and maintaining Generative AI and LLM-based enterprise capabilities that run in production. This contract position emphasizes JavaScript and TypeScript development, LLM integration, and reliable operation across application and platform layers.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, enhance, and support Generative AI and LLM-based applications in production environments
• Develop, improve, and maintain production-grade enterprise applications or platforms
• Integrate applications with Large Language Models (LLMs), AI services, and enterprise APIs
• Build and consume REST APIs and integrate with enterprise systems and data sources
• Troubleshoot complex production issues across application, integration, AI/model, and platform layers

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with hands-on development in JavaScript/TypeScript, including recent work building and supporting Generative AI/LLM-based applications in production
• Experience developing and supporting production-grade enterprise applications or platforms
• Hands-on experience building Generative AI / LLM-based applications and capabilities
• Experience integrating applications with LLMs, AI services, and enterprise APIs
• Understanding of core GenAI concepts, including prompt engineering
• Understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
• Understanding of AI agents and agentic workflows
• Understanding of tool/function calling
• Understanding of context and conversation management
• Understanding of model evaluation and monitoring
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integrating with enterprise systems and data sources
• Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues across application, integration, AI/model, and platform layers
• Experience with modern engineering practices including source control, automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and production deployments
• Understanding of security, authentication, authorization, data privacy, and responsible AI considerations for enterprise AI applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on an enterprise AI platform or shared GenAI platform

• Familiarity with cloud-based AI services and foundation models
• Experience supporting business-critical applications in a production environment

Compensation and Contract Details

• Location: United States (onsite)
• Employment type: contract
• Minimum compensation: USD 50,000 per year
• Maximum compensation: USD 175,000 per year
• Compensation is based on actual experience and qualifications
• Compensation estimate provided in good faith for the role
• Position is available for independent contractors
