Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Engineer 2

Akina, Inc. is hiring an Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Engineer 2 to design, build, test, and productize AI and ML algorithms that address real business needs. This onsite role in Annapolis Junction, MD focuses on turning prototype work into scalable solutions, with continuous improvement driven by both user and system feedback.

In this position, you will work across the full model lifecycle, including selecting datasets, applying statistical analysis, running machine learning algorithms, and validating model performance. You will also support system integration and iterative verification and validation to ensure models meet required standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and create scalable solutions that optimize performance by understanding training, retraining, deploying, scheduling, monitoring, and iterative improvement based on user and system feedback
• Select appropriate data sets
• Perform statistical analysis and run machine learning algorithms
• Use results to improve models and train or retrain systems when needed
• Run standard test and evaluation protocols
• Provide system integration oversight
• Oversee test and evaluation of AI and ML algorithms through an iterative design process aligned to verification and validation requirements
• Research and implement a broad range of AI and ML algorithms and tools
• Design or select appropriate data and knowledge representation methods
• Recognize software architecture, data modelling, and data structures
• Transform and convert data science prototypes into scalable solutions
• Verify data and model output quality
• Identify differences in data distribution that can affect model performance
• May lead geographically diverse teams and serve as a primary point of contact for AI-related matters

Requirements

• Meets standard AIML2 labor category requirements
• Expert knowledge of multiple programming languages, for example Python, Java, C, R
• Experience with standard machine learning frameworks, for example PyTorch and TensorFlow

AIML2 Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in applied machine learning in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity
• A Master’s or Ph.D. degree in advanced math, artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, or deep learning from an accredited college or university
• Five additional years of machine learning experience with a relevant Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for a Master’s degree

• Salary: USD 207,000 - 253,000 per year
