Job Description

The Associate Cybersecurity Engineer will support the deployment and continuous improvement of security controls that help protect Dutch Bros systems, data, and people. This hybrid role supports security operations activities including tooling health, alert handling, vulnerability remediation tracking, and secure configuration work across IT and engineering.

Role Responsibilities

  • Assist with deployment, configuration, and day-to-day health of security tooling, including SIEM, endpoint protection, email security, and identity and access management.
  • Monitor and triage security alerts, conduct initial investigation, document findings, and escalate potential incidents to senior engineers.
  • Support vulnerability scanning and track remediation with system owners, helping verify fixes are applied and effective.
  • Partner with IT, engineering, and business teams to apply secure configurations, support access reviews, and remediate identified risks.
  • Support security awareness efforts and encourage adoption of secure practices across the organization under guidance from senior team members.
  • Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security best practices to continuously improve your approach.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing, tabletop exercises, and training sessions to build competency in security tooling and incident response.

Required & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, etc.) or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
  • 0-1+ years experience in a cybersecurity, IT, systems, or network role, including internships or lab/home-lab experience.
  • Working knowledge of core security concepts including the CIA triad, common attack techniques, defense in depth, and least privilege.
  • Exposure to security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners, email security, or identity and access management platforms preferred.
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPN), and cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to reduce manual security work is a plus.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to explain security risks and requirements to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, ability to multitask, and critical thinking.

Security Certifications

Location & Work Schedule

  • Tempe, Arizona (hybrid).
  • Required to be in office 4 days per week (Mon to Thurs); Fridays are optional remote work days.

Physical Requirements

  • In-office environment: must be able to work in a busy, crowded, and loud office with frequent distractions and interruptions.
  • Must be able to collaborate in person with occasional impromptu in-person meetings.
  • Office conditions may include exposure to air conditioning, heating, artificial lighting, and varying noise levels; adaptability is required.
  • Mobility: ability to sit, stand, reach, twist, stretch, and work at a desk for long stretches; ability to occasionally move or lift office items up to 25 pounds.
  • Hearing sufficient or correctable for clear understanding of spoken information, including virtual meetings and phone calls; hearing aids or other assistive devices are acceptable if needed.
  • Reading and writing proficiency in English for processing documents, drafting reports, and completing follow-up actions.
  • Vision adequate or correctable to perform essential duties such as reading documents on a computer screen and using visual tools; corrective lenses or other measures expected if needed.
  • Technology proficiency using a computer and office productivity tools such as printers, scanners, and collaboration software.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction via email, video conferencing, and other in-office tools.
