Control Systems Engineer
Job Description
Actalent is hiring a Control Systems Engineer for a fully onsite, travel-based contract role supporting process manufacturing clients. In this position, you will commission and qualify automation and control systems, perform PLC architecture work, and support on-site testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and client knowledge transfer across multi-month project assignments.
What youβll do
- Execute automation commissioning and validation protocols for process manufacturing control systems.
- Troubleshoot and remediate commissioning and validation non-conformances to ensure reliable operation and specification compliance.
- Collaborate with internal engineers and client teams to design and deliver control systems that support efficiency, product quality, and profitability.
- Define, configure, and implement PLC architectures for new and existing systems.
- Perform testing, on-site commissioning, and qualification activities to verify proper control system operation.
- Support building automation initiatives by integrating mechanical, electrical, and control components into cohesive systems.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to HMI interfaces, mechanical systems, and electrical systems during commissioning and ongoing support.
- Document configuration changes, test results, and commissioning activities in a clear and organized manner.
- Provide hands-on training and knowledge transfer to client personnel and team members as needed.
- Adapt to changing project requirements, schedules, and locations while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Required qualifications
- Proficiency in programming and configuring control systems, including PLCs.
- Experience with control systems engineering in process manufacturing or related environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot automation, HMI, mechanical, and electrical issues in the field.
- Knowledge of building automation concepts and integration of control systems with mechanical and electrical components.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remediate commissioning and validation non-conformances.
- Ability to work effectively with internal engineers and clients in a team environment.
- Engineering degree in mechanical, systems, automation, or electrical engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Flexibility to travel and work on multi-month assignments at different locations.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including extended shifts as required by the project.
- Adaptable and enthusiastic approach to learning new technologies and processes.

Work setting and schedule
This is a fully on-site, travel-based role based in client facilities, typically spending approximately 3β6 months per project. The schedule is typically either six 10-hour shifts per week or five 10-hour shifts per week, depending on project needs. Work occurs in industrial and process manufacturing environments requiring appropriate PPE, with frequent travel and per diem.

- Pay range: $39.00β$50.00 per hour
