Job Description

Controls Design Engineer role in Spartanburg, SC focused on 2D control panel design, PLC architecture mapping, component specification, and UL 508A and NFPA 79 compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Draft 2D control panel footprints, enclosure structures, backplate dimensions, and wire-duct routing pathways
  • Design I/O module layouts, define communication network topologies, and plan wiring paths for controllers
  • Select physical components including relays, terminal blocks, circuit breakers, power supplies, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Compute heat dissipation within the enclosure to specify cooling units or venting hardware
  • Compile a manufacturing Bill of Materials using exact part numbers, footprints, and vendor data
  • Certify panel construction strictly complies with UL 508A (Industrial Control Panels) and NFPA 79

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical using intelligent symbols, automated wire numbering, cross-referencing, and terminal strip utilities
  • Allen-Bradley Programming/Debug Experience required
  • Strong understanding of power distribution, control loops, safety interlocking circuits, and grounding
  • Experience with 4-20mA loop powered circuits
  • Certify panel construction strictly complies with UL 508A (Industrial Control Panels) and NFPA 79

Pay

  • $71,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
