Job Description

The Cybersecurity Engineer in this Tier 1 Desktop Support role works closely with the Chief Security Officer to deter, monitor, analyze, investigate, and respond to cyber security threats and network intrusions for client and internal environments.

Location and Employment Details

  • Location: Salinas, CA (onsite)
  • Compensation: USD 18 - 25 per hour
  • Minimum experience: 2 years

Summary

This position blends desktop support with cybersecurity operations. You will contribute to incident response and SOC activities while maintaining security-focused documentation, supporting audits and reviews, and helping stakeholders understand vulnerabilities and remediation steps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and create standard operating procedures to secure client and internal data and support security education for staff.
  • Participate in a lead capacity for incident response, threat intelligence, and forensic functions.
  • Research emerging information threats, vulnerabilities, and countermeasures.
  • Conduct information security control reviews and security audits for clients across various industries.
  • Provide compliance, risk, and controls expertise to support information security and compliance initiatives.
  • Perform SOC operations, including monitoring, reporting, and response to malicious activity.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple clients and projects.
  • Complete security assessments, including penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, and review of firewall settings.
  • Consult with stakeholders regarding information system vulnerabilities and help explain remediation options in an educational format.
  • Assist and train other staff on security threats and audit techniques.
  • Follow standard OpsCenter operating procedures and accurately log activity using the online tracking system.
  • Enforce ATG IT policies.
  • Stay current on client technology changes or problems by becoming familiar with available help resources.

Required Education and Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Additional qualification: Certificate from a college or technical school, or 2 years of equivalent related work experience
  • Ability to complete reports for customers and required company documents.
  • Ability to follow and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Driver requirements: Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to submit to and pass a background and drug test per Company policy.
  • Certification requirement: CompTIA Security+ must be up-to-date or obtained within six months after the hire date.
  • Friendly presence and helpful attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide technical support over the phone with professional demeanor; prior customer service experience strongly desired.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to visualize issues and think abstractly.
  • Ability to remain productive during fluctuating workloads, multitask effectively, and maintain patience and professionalism under stress.
  • Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision.
  • Working knowledge of common operating systems and software applications.
  • Adequate familiarity with equipment found at ATG client locations.
