Job Description

As Qualitate’s first dedicated Data Engineer, you will design and operationalize the data foundation behind AI moderation and customer-facing, structured insights. The role is onsite in New York and centers on building pipelines, data models, and AI-powered enrichment workflows with strong ownership of data quality.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain data pipelines, designing ETL/ELT processes to ingest unstructured data, quantitative metrics, and third-party datasets into core systems.
  • Design data models and data systems, building and evolving models across relational and non-relational environments.
  • Develop AI-powered data enrichment pipelines using LLMs and other AI systems to extract structured information from unstructured inputs, classify and enrich records, and integrate AI outputs into reliable production workflows and evaluation systems.
  • Own data quality end-to-end by implementing automated QA checks, monitoring, and alerting to detect anomalies before they impact customers.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Research, Applied AI, and Engineering to define schemas, data contracts, and reporting requirements for new features.
  • Document systems as you build, including data lineage, schema documentation, and runbooks to support long-term maintainability.

Requirements

  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to write complex, high-performance queries and reason about data at scale.
  • Production software engineering capability, with experience in either TypeScript or Python for automation, data pipelines, integrations, and internal tooling.
  • Proficiency building robust data integrations, including experience with APIs, databases, and files, plus handling authentication, pagination, rate limits, incremental extraction, retries, schema changes, and error handling.
  • Experience researching and integrating third-party datasets, including entity matching, corporate hierarchies, subsidiaries, acquisitions, and reconciliation across sources.
  • Comfort working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data, and understanding tradeoffs across relational databases, object storage, search and indexing systems, and analytical data stores.
  • Ability to work with the existing stack and help shape what comes next, including maintaining TypeScript pipelines on scheduled jobs and Postgres-native queues, using S3 for object storage, and leveraging AWS Bedrock for retrieval.
  • Experience with a modern warehouse and transformation stack such as Snowflake or BigQuery, dbt, and Airflow is a plus.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, early-stage environments where data infrastructure is still evolving.

Benefits

  • Base salary: USD 170,000 - 200,000 per year, depending on experience.
