Data Engineer
Job Description
Tennr is building production-ready data capabilities to support healthcare data workflows and internal analytics. This role owns the end-to-end data engineering function, with a focus on Snowflake pipelines, EHR integration, and transforming structured and unstructured clinical information into usable assets.
Location: New York, NY (onsite)
Compensation: USD 160,000 - 190,000 per year
Experience: 3+ years
What you’ll do
- Own the data engineering function end-to-end by building and maintaining production pipelines from Tennr applications into Snowflake, with an emphasis on reliability and performance at scale.
- Lead EHR discovery and integration initiatives across approximately 5–10 healthcare systems, including assessing available data, existing integrations, technical tradeoffs, and building solutions to extract and ingest data into Snowflake.
- Serve as the owner of Snowflake as Tennr’s strategic data platform, including instance setup, security best practices and governance, and vendor relationship management to ensure zero data exposure.
- Design and implement data models that convert raw data into usable analytics assets, then surface and safely share those assets across Tennr so internal teams can build analytics and tooling.
- Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting to detect pipeline issues early and resolve them with minimal impact on the business.
- Explore innovative ways to structure and extract insights from unstructured referral documentation, including potential AI-enabled models for clinical text data.
What you bring
- 3–5 years of data engineering experience, including a strong record building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure.
- Proven expertise with Snowflake and modern cloud data platforms such as AWS and GCP, plus hands-on experience with data pipeline tools and orchestration frameworks.
- Strong understanding of healthcare data, including claims, EHR systems, and integration patterns, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn complex domain-specific systems.
- Healthcare-data security awareness and familiarity with best practices such as HIPAA considerations, data governance, and compliance (strong plus).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort handling complex, ambiguous integration work beyond standard connector setup.
- Outstanding communication skills to explain complex technical and healthcare concepts to a diverse audience.
- Team-oriented mindset that values collaboration and diverse perspectives.
- Prior experience in a startup or fast-paced tech environment is a plus.
