What we offer
Global Service Resources is seeking a remote Data Engineer contractor to support LA County data initiatives. This 12 month engagement provides a flexible remote schedule, a 40 hour workweek, and compensation of $55 to $60 per hour. The role emphasizes collaboration across agencies and includes knowledge transfer duties, offering a strong pathway for ongoing work with LA County teams. A high potential exists for extension or conversion to direct hire based on performance and project needs.
Responsibilities
- Operate under the supervision of an IT Manager or client agency staff to perform data extraction, analysis, mapping, and conversion. This includes profiling, cleansing, transforming, validating, and loading data from multiple legacy systems into the target solution while ensuring data integrity and reconciliation.
- Contribute to defining data requirements, support cross agency coordination, and ensure converted data meets the needs of business users.
- Support planning and communication of data conversion activities, assist with issue identification, and facilitate effective information flow among stakeholders across organizational units.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer or training so staff can work with the converted data confidently and accurately.
Requirements
- Three or more years of experience supporting field mapping, crosswalk analysis, and data validation during conversion efforts, including troubleshooting data quality issues such as blob-size anomalies and variable-length errors.
- Experience coordinating with organizations on file reviews and data dictionary prioritization, and handling encrypted test files and regulated data.
- Proficiency with legacy and relational data technologies such as mainframe environments, DB2, FOCUS, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong knowledge of legacy systems, flat files, and mainframe-extracted data, along with experience handling structured or unstructured datasets.
- Ability to document extraction logic and validation rules, coordinate across units, identify required data elements, and resolve data inconsistencies and quality issues; familiarity with government data retention is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, engineering, or a closely related field; additional qualifying experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
