Job Description

The Data Engineer role within Ads Science Analysis & Tech (ASAT) supports Amazon Ads by building analytics capabilities that examine intricate data flows and translate insights into product actions, influencing bidding models, audience targeting, and feature releases. This onsite position is based in Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities

  • Examine trends in supply, optimization, ad load, and the mix of advertising formats to gauge impact on advertiser performance and help meet advertiser goals.
  • Present analyses to senior leadership on topics such as how feature development affects identity recognition rates and how changes to ad selection and auction systems affect fill rate, highlighting insights to guide business development and engineering roadmaps.
  • Systematize the analytics approach for Ads auctions by evaluating bid spreads, auction depth, and simulating potential changes to auction structures.
  • Identify, standardize, and operationalize key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of all components involved in ad serving, using trend data to inform priorities.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define data logging requirements and secure prioritization within engineering roadmaps.
  • Validate financial models through rigorous analysis.
  • Create and own analytics decks focused on ad revenue and supply intelligence to sustain ongoing deep-dives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of data engineering experience
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
  • Bachelor's degree

A Day in the Life

The Data Engineer will collaborate with business leaders and engineers to design a unified data architecture that supports logging at multiple granularities, enabling data interoperability from bid flow through optimization to campaign delivery. The role includes analyzing the data and delivering papers and ongoing reports with actionable insights.

The Ads Science Product Team seeks to apply objective analysis and business logic to product data, uncovering insights to inform strategic decisions and adapt to industry changes in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization.
