Job Description

Data Engineer, Finance role with ASCOT GROUP in Iselin, NJ, offering a hybrid work schedule and a focus on data warehouse projects.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as a Data Engineer Level 1 on projects, enhancements, and production support.
  • Own the analysis and provide hands-on development for assigned projects.
  • Contribute to work estimates by participating in feasibility, scoping, and estimation activities based on business requirements.
  • Assist in crafting high and low level designs and technical specifications ready for execution.
  • Validate the accuracy and quality of data integrations derived from ETL specifications and ensure data model specifications are met.
  • Engage in hands-on design, development, and testing for complex data related tasks.
  • Coordinate or lead production implementations to ensure smooth, high-quality releases.
  • Support the delivery of new warehouse sources, tables, marts, and related structures while following company standards.
  • Coordinate Ascot and vendor resources to secure timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Think independently to streamline processes and eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Identify opportunities to accelerate speed and improve output quality; translate ideas into new capabilities and improvements.
  • Anticipate and report technical and organizational roadblocks.
  • Uphold The Ascot Way in daily interactions, promoting collaboration, inclusion, and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Data Analyst/Engineer for a large Data Warehouse handling sizable data sets.
  • Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, or ADF.
  • Industry experience in Commercial and/or Specialty insurance is preferred.
  • Understanding of financial data and related concepts.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven SQL skills and experience using SQL to identify and correct data issues.
  • Database knowledge, preferably SQL Server and/or Synapse.
  • Scripting and SQL proficiency to perform ETL, data/file validation, analysis, and profiling.
  • Basic ability to create, read, understand, and interpret Data Models.
  • Code maintenance and review experience in one or more general purpose programming languages.
  • Understanding of insurance domain data models is desirable.

Position Overview

The Data Engineer in the Data Integration & Delivery Team is responsible for the analysis, development, implementation, testing, and ongoing support of data warehouse projects, including Phinsys and the Data & Integration Hub. This role is based in the office with a hybrid work schedule in Iselin, NJ.
